Some years ago I saw a Samba band playing at Poole Harbour and was completely knocked out by the sound, the rhythm and the vitality. It was always in the back of my mind to try to join a samba band some day.
When we moved to Teignmouth, after a short while I learnt from a fellow member of a choir I had joined that there was to be a workshop being held by local samba band, StreetHeat.
My wife Linda came along too and as soon as we walked into the first meeting I knew that I was a round peg in a round hole. We have both loved being part of StreetHeat since that memorable day in 2007. With such a great bunch of like minded girls and boys we have a fun time socially too.
I have played at the Jersey Battle of the Flowers which was such an enjoyable event and a very appreciative and large audience. Then Sidmouth Folk Festival every August where the band now has a strong and enthusiastic fanbase who make the whole thing such a joy.
How many times in everyday life does someone come up to you and tell you how awesome you are – well, they mean StreetHeat of course, not just me, but the buzz is still fabulous.
