All I could hear was the beat of the drums. I couldn’t see where it was coming from..but I had to find out. I tried jumping up to see above the heads of hundreds of people. No luck. I tried to squeeze my way through. That didn’t work either. In the end I climbed a tree…and there was Streetheat!
It was summer 1997 and I was at the Exeter festival. From my vantage point up the tree I could see a group of people having fun and making music. All around I could see the crowds smiling, moving to the beat. I knew then, I wanted to be part of it.
A few months later I joined a group of like-minded people and we embarked on a 10 week work shop with the band. I made it through the selection process and several years later I’m still there, with some of my original workshop group, who I now count as some of my best friends.
I love the music, the friendship, the dressing up and the face painting. I love the adventure of visiting new places and meeting new people. We’ve been to Nice, Jersey, Old Gaffers, Cowes, Glastonbury to name but a few. I also feel honoured that we perform for charities and do our bit to help others.
