I joined the band in 2008 and have been an enthusiastic member ever since. Playing agogo bells is great fun, although one does have to concentrate hard on the tricky patterns. Eventually these become second nature as some sort of muscle memory takes over, but it felt like quite a challenge for me to begin with, especially as I had not played any instrument since schooldays.
Street Heat is a genuinely friendly, fun group of people who like letting their hair down and showing off -whilst dressed in amazing bright costumes and feathers, but also take pride in giving a professional performance and offering our audiences a lively and good-humoured experience. Socially it’s a brilliant way to meet people from all walks of life, and of all ages, and I have made so many lovely friends in the band. My favourite gigs include the wonderful Battle of the Flowers in Jersey, and the Tolpuddle Festival, both of which I have attended several times now; the response of the crowd is heart-warming and gives us all a huge positive lift.
