Tamborim
I joined Street Heat Samba Band in 2015 – and have never looked back (I just wish I’d taken the plunge earlier!) This is a fabulous, friendly group of people, of all ages and from all walks of life, who collectively love to get together and play the infectious samba rhythms (loudly!) that Street Heat are known for.
I play an instrument called a Tamborim. The “Tam” section tends to be in the front row, so you can’t be too shy and retiring! The moves we create with the rhythms certainly keep us fit and supple! There is nothing more satisfying than seeing your audience smiling, clapping along and moving with us.
We rehearse weekly and perform all over – Carnival Processions, Festivals, Charity events etc. Some of my favourite gigs have been the Pride Parades (Exeter/Exmouth/Torquay), Sidmouth Seafest and a regular spot during Sidmouth Folk Week. I’ve even travelled as far as Jersey with the Band for the famous Battle of Flowers!
