I joined Streetheat in October 2024. A friend of mine, Brian, has been with the band for many years and was telling me about it; it sounded like fun!
I decided to join as I was looking for something to do just for me; I wanted to inject some colour into & expand my social life, meet new people & make some noise!
Being in Streetheat is so much fun! I love drumming; it’s very tribal and uplifting. Everyone is so friendly & practise nights are a great way of meeting people & making friends. Performing with Streetheat is amazing! It’s so much fun dressing up so colourfully, & watching the crowds getting so much enjoyment from the band is joyful!
I play the Small Surdo (which is not small!) & haven’t tried any other instruments so far, preferring to concentrate on my Surdo part within the band.
I don’t have a particular favourite Samba sound; I just love anything with a good beat that gets the crowd clapping & joining in.
I’ve enjoyed all of the gigs I’ve been part of; from initial busking gigs at the start to full flames gigs & carnivals. Sidmouth Folk Week was a particular favourite & Paignton carnival was great fun!
I can’t imagine not being part of the band now! I absolutely love it.
